Why it works

The Bac-in-a-Box® technology builds a porous capsule round the bacteria or yeast, allowing free diffusion of nutrients in, and waste products out.

What it can be used for

In nutrition, it enables encapsulated probiotic bacteria to pass through the stomach acid unharmed and be released in the lower intestine.

In farming, the Bac-in-a-Box® technology provides a means to easily store and transport probiotic bacteria at ambient temperature and to protect them from destruction in the stomach acid, allowing them to be more effective at lower cost.

In fermentation, it allows yeast to be applied and then easily removed since the yeast remain encapsulated within the capsules which are large enough to be simply removed.

In cosmetics, the Bac-in-a-Box® technology provides a means to transfer "active centres" of probiotic bacteria to soap or body wash. Gel8 is approved and listed in the International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients.  

In bio-remediation it allows remediating bacteria to be encapsulated, applied in an environmental situation, and then easily retrieved again and removed.

The technology also forms the basis of a powerful research tool.
